A continent of many worlds

Visitors from other parts of the world sometimes have a tendency to zap through the continent as if in a slide show: From Berlin to Paris, from Versailles to Schönbrunn, from the lookout points of the Alps to the lagoons of Venice. In few parts of the world can one find such a variety of landscapes and people so close together. Any given route from the Atlantic Coast to Turkey offers a cross-section of unbelievably diverse natural and social history. Whether it's the Arabic-influenced south of Spain, the granite rocks of the western cusp of France, the rough cliffs of Croatia, the alpine area of Central Europe - the numerous fragments make up a continent that can only be described with words like diversified and multifarous. The fully developed train system that exists in nearly all European countries is ideal to accentuate the countryside and people between the tourist attractions. And yet: even after realizing that the many churches, castles, and modern buildings that history has strewn all over Europe can hardly be honored properly in one's lifetime, zapping seems to become inevitable.
