  • This small town was the hometown of romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Our band, an ensemble of three that usually sang Irish and Renaissance songs, set some of the great poet's works to music. Then the gutsiest of us three contacted the town administrators and asked if we could give a concert a the church where Shelley grew up. We happened to know it would be the 300th anniversary of the church that year. We gave this concert in (I think) 1997 or 1998. Although I don't remember all the details, I do remember loving the bed and breakfast, charming houses, quaint main street, complete with yarn shop to feed my fettish, and of course the beautiful church. It's not far from London, and we also took a couple of day trips in a rented car into the English countryside and over to Dover. It's not as hard as you think to drive a car with the steering wheel on the right side! :)
