<triplocations name="Djerba" description="Welcome to Djerba " Ulysse's Island "
Djerba island is one the main touristic resort in Tunisia. The tourism sector started to develop since 1954 when Gilber Trigano ( Club med ) founded a club there called " Djerba la fidèle " Today there more than 120 hotels on the island offering a range of accomodations from the 1st class hotels,to the hotel club and the small boutique hotels.
Djerba offer a vacation which meet the demands of it's international visitors, a relaxed holyday, but a lot more such as a variety of sea sports, fitness, well being and thalasso therapy, golf, gambling, museums,a night life is the disco bar, events and festivals, the numerous number of restaurants offering fresh fish and sea food or local dishes, shopping, and sightseeing.
Hopefully the island is quite big ( over 514 square km ) most of the hotels are located in 2 big touristic zones on the beach side, the life inside the island was not really spoiled by the crowed of the holidays makers. The local architecture of the homes " The menzels " and the numorous number of the tiny mosques are still surviving among a vegetation known with palm trees and olive groves.
The original inhabitants " the real Djerbians " who live on the Island are still conserving their colorful traditionnal dresses.
Most of the " Djerbians " live on the main land in the main cities within Tunisia, mainly in the capital, some are abroad being known as merchants and trade men.But they come back very often to the Island as the still have their properies.
Among the other facts that Djerba have the best hotel's occupamcy in the hole country, because it enjoy a mild weather around the year and the highest number of sunshine days.Djerba have an iternational airport and a good road network.
It's location is very suitable to discover the south part of Tunisia which includes the sahara with it's treamendous sand dunes and green oasis, also to visit the different type of the berber's dwelling such as the troglodytes in Matamta ( Star war location) Chenini,Douiret, etc.. or the " ghorfas " former graneries or ware house and " ksars" in Tataouine area.
