<triplocations name="Tian Tan Buddha" description="Tian Tan Buddha's nickname is "Big Buddha," and it's a bit of an understatement; at 110 ft. high and weighing in at 250 metric tons, it was the world's tallest outdoor bronze seated Buddha until 2002, when it was dethroned by the Spring Temple Buddha in China. Though there are still monks and nuns - it is still an active monastery - you're more likely to be surrounded by crowds of camera-happy tourists. It's 268 daunting steps to the top, but the resulting views are worth the heavy huffing and puffing.

Though you can take the bus to Tian Tan Buddha, it's worth taking the Ngong Ping 360 cable car from Tung Chung MTR station. Floating slowly over verdant hills and eventually stopping within walking distance of the Buddha, it's unlike any ride you'll take in Hong Kong. It's also worth seeing how the Buddha dominates the landscape, a formidable sight even from far away." favorite="" full_name="Tian Tan Buddha, Hong Kong , China" googled_path="China/Hong-Kong-/Tian-Tan-Buddha" hidden="0" href="http://www.tripwolf.com/en/guide/show/13578/China/Hong-Kong-/Tian-Tan-Buddha" id="13578" inherited="0" is_poi="1" item_name="Tian Tan Buddha, Hong Kong , China" language="ENG" latitude="22.362405" longitude="114.105339" ltp_level="0" parents_name="Hong Kong , China" rating="5" recommended="" status_description="4" status_name="1" status_tags="0" status_teaser="2" teaser="The world’s tallest seated Buddha statue." teaser_or_description="<b>The world’s tallest seated Buddha statue.</b> Tian Tan Buddha's nickname is "Big Buddha," and it's a bit of an understatement; at 110 ft. high and weighing in at 250 metric tons, it was the world's tallest..." teaser_or_description_short="<b>The world’s tallest seated Buddha statue.</b> Tian Tan Buddha's nickname is "Big Buddha," and it's a bit of an understatement..." type="13" type_id="13" type_name="sight" votes="6" zoom="16">

<triplocations name="Victoria Peak" description="Towering over the city, Victoria Peak offers perhaps the most commanding view of the Mid-Levels, Central and the harbor. Much cooler than the flat areas below, it's no wonder that British set up summer homes here; over time, its relative seclusion ensured that it became the hideaway of the city's elite. Though access is no longer a problem, Victoria Peak remains the stomping grounds of some of the biggest names in Hong Kong. Nevertheless, the views, draw thousands of tourists each day - most choose to walk the hour-long Peak circuit, but there is also a shopping center, Madame Tussaud's gallery, and Ripley's Believe It or Not.

The Peak Tram, leaving from the Lower Peak Tram Terminal in Central, is a hair-raising journey to the top of Victoria Peak that is surprisingly quick, despite the 27 degree angle at which it climbs. You can also take bus #15 from Central Bus Terminal.
