New Year's in Cape Town

New Year's in Cape Town

Airy, warm and full of life; a Cape Town New Year’s experience is something that people carry home with them. New Year’s Eve in Cape Town accentuates the picturesque beauty of this city while infusing it with revelry.

Fireworks take place in the VA Waterfront area, along the beach. Crowds start building up, so arrive early to pick a good spot. The best place to be is near the VA Amphitheatre. Local bands perform live and add a lot of flavor to the events.

You could celebrate New Year’s in Cape Town by dining at one of the amazing restaurants that the city offers. The fine-dining scene is well established in Cape Town, and top notch places like Tank and Belthazar organize New Year’s Eve dinners. The Africa Café, a Cape Town institution, also pulls in New Year’s crowds.

Cape Town New Year’s parties take place in various locations, and include parties and raves organized on nearby beaches. So keep an eye out on local listings for details. The nightlife in Cape Town is perhaps the best in South Africa. Clubs like Hemisphere or the Jo’burg bar have very exciting lineups on New Year’s Eve. Kennedy’s offers a classy experience in settings reminiscent of colonial times.

The city is also home to a number of fabulous boutique hotels, with Grand Daddy and Daddy Long Legs being amongst travelers favorites. Or choose to stay at the grandiose Hotel Nelson, which would also be a good place to head to on New Year’s Day, with the high tea providing and excellent cure for hangovers. Arnold’s is another great brunch place.

You can then start off the new year in style by spending a day wandering and sampling wine at the Zevenwacht wine estate (if you're up for it!), a few miles from the city.
