New Year's in Montreal

True to its reputation, Montreal offers a genuinely hip New Year's experience. Montreal New Year's parties are held at many different venues, so keep a look out for party listings and purchase tickets well in advance.

The Old Port is one of the best places to celebrate New Year's Eve, with its great atmosphere. Though the weather is very cold, people gather in the streets by the thousands. Grand Bal du Nouvel An offers live outddor performances, fireworks and even a skating rink.

Luba Lounge is more of a relaxed destination, with its plush red sofas and relatively small space. If you are in the mood for clubbing then look for the New Year's parties on various internet forums, or head to Unity II where you are bound to meet up with a cool crowd.

Head to Rue St. Catherine or le Plateau and take your pick of New Year's Eve bashes happening around these neighborhoods. There will be a lot of extremely intoxicated young people - if that's your style, dive in, if not, avoid this street.

The famous L'express or Au Pied de Cuchon are perhaps the best dining options. Otherwise celebrate New Year's by heading to Altitude 737 and enjoy a great view of the city and the fireworks from the tallest building in Montreal. The Globe restaurant is also an excellent dining option.

The party continues in Montreal on New Year's Day with Resolution, a trance party usually held at the Montreal Bell Center.
