Sunday morning in Stockholm

Sunday morning in Stockholm

It’s Sunday morning. You just woke up in a prison cell in Stockholm… but what happened last night? What did you do to end up in a prison cell? Don’t worry, you didn’t get arrested or anything, you just spent the night in one of the renovated prison cells in the Crown Remand Prison (Kronohäktet), which actually doesn’t have a lot in common with a prison cell anymore. In Långholmen's Hostel comfort is the order of the day, so you don’t have to sleep on hard, uncomfortable beds, but can relax instead in cozy, nicely decorated rooms, some of them even with private shower and bathroom. So what are you planning to do the rest of the day? How about shopping at the world’s biggest IKEA store (55,200m²) in Kungens Kurva? It's open from 10am to 8pm on Sundays, and you could probably spend the whole day inside the store.

Or what about Skansen, an open-air museum and zoo? It’s actually a replica of a traditional 19th century town, replete with a wide range of Scandinavian animals. The idea doesn’t appeal to you? Hm, what about a walk in the old town (Gamla Stan)? Next to shops with typical Swedish handicrafts, you'll find a lot of books and products with Pippi Longstocking’s (Pippi Långstrump) face on them. Or would you be interested in a boat tour to experience Stockholm from the water? This way you can see many of the must-see sights from a different angle. So it’s now up to you to decide how you're going to spend your Sunday in Stockholm - but just between you and me, here's an insider tip I once got from a Swedish guy: take in the wonderful view at Monteliusvägen - you can't fail to enjoy it!
