A perfect day in Copenhagen

Waking up in a dorm at the low-priced and clean Danhostel City, just enjoy the morning view you have over Denmark’s capital; the hostel is situated in a tower and next to a river. After breakfast at one of the chain stores in Lagkagehuset (where you'll find a variety of delicious bakery products), go to Christiania, the freetown in Christianshavn. It is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighborhood where you can rent bikes for a tour inside the colorful town. Then take public transportation to see the statue of the little mermaid. She is the protagonist in one of H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales and the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Arielle.

If all this has given you an appetite, then either have a bite to eat at Meyers Deli at Kongens Nytorv or try to find some typical Danish smørrebrød, which is in fact buttered bread with different kinds of toppings (meat, fish, cheese, spreads, potatoes, … there are no limits to the Danish imagination). In the afternoon just have a stroll around the city and visit the Rundetårn, Kongens Nytorv, Christiansborg Slotskirke, Slotsholmen, Charlottenborg, Rosenborg Slot, Amalienborg, Botanisk Have -- then walk slowly back toward the main train station. There you can find the Tivoli, an amusement park and pleasure garden which has a very attractively illuminated garden at night. This is the ideal location to wrap up your perfect day in Copenhagen in a relaxing atmosphere.
