Wilfried Schaffner takes over management of the travel startup — Discount Week, 20 percent off every download

Vienna, November 13, 2013. tripwolf, a leading international provider of travel guide apps for smartphones, celebrates five million app downloads. It’s with this record number of downloads that the company makes its new CEO, the mobile expert Wilfried Schaffner (37), a great welcome gift. Schaffner is the successor of founder Sebastian Heinzel, who stood at the helm of the company since 2008.

In celebration of the five million app downloads, on November 14, 2013 tripwolf starts a Thank you-week in which all the products of the tripwolf app (city guides, country guides, guide packets) are discounted by 20%.  The promotion ends on November 22, 2013.

As new leader of tripwolf’s 15-member team, CEO Wilfried Schaffner will pilot the company into its next phase of growth: “Mobile content is where the travel industry’s future lies,” says Schaffner.  “Five million downloads is an important milestone for us. Wilfried Schaffner has demonstrated himself successful with several start-up companies including Mobile Messenger and Truck24.  Born in Upper Austria, Schaffner returns after 13 years of overseas experience in Germany, Australia and the U.S.

Mobile Travel Guide Announces Expanded Country Guides in App Stores

The mobile travel guide tripwolf celebrates 3 million downloads of its apps for iPhone and Android devices. This makes the Vienna-based social travel guide one of most successful publishers of travel guides for smartphones worldwide. tripwolf apps are especially popular in Germany, Italy, France and the US.

Apps with the highlights for each country – from the Trevi fountain in Rome, Italy to the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand – are available now for free in the app stores.  Just as in the popular tripwolf city guides, all recommendations for Places to See and Things to Do are generated by the tripwolf community. The premium version of a country guide costs between $4.99 and $9.99 depending on the amount of content included.

Partnership with TourRadar to Launch Apps for Tourism Tropical North Queensland

Mobile travel guide tripwolf now offers white label solutions of its mobile travel guide apps to the tourism industry. Tourist boards, tour operators and travel publishers can now have their own apps for iPhone and Android based on the technology of the popular tripwolf apps. The app for the Australian tourism region Cairns & Great Barrier Reef has been built for Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ), in a joint project between tripwolf and tour aggregator TourRadar, will be officially launched on April 9, 2012.

“The new Cairns & Great Barrier Reef app built by tripwolf and TourRadar was received very well by our members and first users,” says David Inches, Director Consumer Marketing for Tourism Tropical North Queensland. “The collaboration has been very successful from the start.”

tripwolf and TourRadar have not only built iPhone and Android apps for TTNQ, but also a range of Facebook apps. All mobile and social apps include up-to-date information from local tour operators as well as hotels, restaurants and sights. The Cairns & Great Barrier Reef mobile apps also pull some of their content from the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW). They work completely offline once fully downloaded.
