The mobile travel guide’s new iOS update introduces modern mapping technology for better offline navigation; free test guide from 11/07-11/09/2014
Vienna, November 7, 2014. tripwolf, the Vienna-based international start-up for online and mobile travel guides has recently included maps showcasing the latest technology in the iOS version of its app. The new maps offer smooth handling with high-resolution detail and minimal loading times. tripwolf’s iOS user base, which is growing monthly at a rate of more than 150,000 users, can test the improved maps using a free travel guide from November 7-9.
The major advantages of the new maps come from the vector-based technology used, which puts together the information using mathematical formulas instead of image fragments. Now, the maps load in split seconds and allow liquid, seamless panning and zooming. They re-scale automatically and appear sharp and detailed on every zoom level. Another practical side-effect is the smaller file size of the new tripwolf maps: users can now download individual cities, regions or entire country maps without using an unnecessarily large amount of storage space. In addition to the informative content and features that allow for customized travel plans, tripwolf’s travel guides now also enable users to navigate even more efficiently without an internet connection.
tripwolf – a pocket-sized travel companion
“We are delighted to have taken our most popular product to a new level by improving this key feature considerably. All our customers now have offline access to all the maps they require during their vacation. After all, more than 50 percent of our users use the app on an iPad or iPhone to access our travel guides.” says tripwolf’s CEO Wilfried Schaffner of the new map technology. “The vector maps are also a good starting point for further navigation features planned for the future, such as a routing functionality.” he goes on.
tripwolf is currently on the threshold of 7 million downloads. Recently, both the iPad app and the iPhone version – the two best-selling products of the Viennese travel guide company – underwent a major redesign. In addition to the iOS version, the tripwolf portfolio also contains the travel app for Android, which was already equipped with the new maps. While tablets are particularly popular among users doing their travel planning in the comfort of their own home or in their hotel, the smartphone versions are most commonly used by tripwolf travelers at their destination, thanks to the handiness of the devices.
The tripwolf travel guide is a mobile app that is also available on an online platform (http://www.tripwolf.com). tripwolf offers mobile guides for iOS and Android devices for more than 500 destinations worldwide in five languages (German, English, Spanish, French, and Italian). On average, 1 million users per month visit the web platform tripwolf.com, while more than 200,000 registered tripwolf community members write reviews and upload travel photos to the guides. Besides the tripwolf travel app, which was produced in-house, tripwolf has created numerous international collaborative white label apps including Visit Aruba, Best of Berlin, and Venga Mexico.
With well over six million app downloads, the tripwolf apps are among the most successful travel applications on the market. Founded in 2008, tripwolf GmbH has a 15-strong international team based in Vienna.
