Revamped Android app from Vienna-based travel guide experts concludes redesign process; free travel guide to test on December 25

Vienna, December 22, 2014. Vienna-based travel start-up tripwolf has recently concluded the renewal process of its entire app collection by relaunching the freshly designed Android app. The three essential levels of visual design, technical realization and the travel guide structure have been revamped to the reflect state-of-the-art standards. The redesign is based on Google’s cheeky, eye-catching Material Design. Not long ago, tripwolf finished redesigning both its iPad and iPhone app, which account up for more than 50% of its revenue and 45% of downloads in the iTunes store. On December 25, all existing and new users have the opportunity to download one free tripwolf travel guide in the new Android design to test the new look and feel of the tripwolf travel guides (valid for iOS too).

One year after the Viennese start-up began the process of revamping its iPad and iPhone app, thus initiating an extensive renewal process of all its products, the Android version is presented with an attractive new look as well as new content elements. Besides the visual refurbishment there have been several technical improvements that allow for a more fluid handling of the app. The improved internal structure of the travel guides also guarantees a more intuitive user experience. Additional, target group-specific chapters include the latest recommendations of the editorial team, with topics such as “Traveling with children”, “For gourmets” or “On a rainy day”.

In keeping with Google’s Material Design concept, the focus is now more on illustrative photos of destinations. The whole layout has been reorganized to make the app easier to use on small smartphone displays by removing disruptive elements and putting more emphasis on the essential topics and information.

“As soon as we launched our redesigned apps for iPad and iPhone, it became obvious how substantially the wow factor of the app design influences download numbers. Naturally, we are very happy that all of our apps – including the Android app – are visually and structurally state-of-the-art.” says tripwolf’s CEO Wilfried Schaffner. “Not only our team of developers but also the editorial team provided a major contribution to this project. We are delighted that we are finally able to present a sleek and intuitive product to our steadily growing Android user community”, Schaffner adds.

Only recently tripwolf overhauled the map feature in its app by transferring to vector-based maps, thus allowing extensive offline use even in its large country guides. The international tourism association Corps Touristique presented tripwolf with its award for an outstanding online presence in November. In addition, Apple included tripwolf’s iPad app in its prestigious “Best of 2014” list.
