This town lies about 20km on the east of Kumasi on the Mampong road. It is the major centre for the famous Adinkra cloth design. Adinkra in the local language – Twi – means farewell. Dark and red Adinkra cloth is used on somber occasions such as funerals to bid the last farewell to the dead. Other colours and designs are also used on festive and ceremonial occasions. What makes the Adinkra cloth unique is that, it is printed or stamped with special motifs of Adinkra symbols, which are a language and sacred to the people of Ashanti.FOR MORE INFORMATION CHECK OUT FOR " GIUDE TO THE CENTRE FOR NATIONAL CULTURE IN ASHANTI, GHANA( learning from cultural symbols and metaphors)- K.Opoku (Project Director and Senior Researcher for Centre for National Culture)
