Historic Centre of the City of Salzburg

Salzburg's old town is one of the most photographed city centers in the world -- a wonderful collection of buildings situated between two beautiful city hills, and the Salzach River in between. The historical city center was also added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The old town consists of two parts, separated by the river: the smaller eastern part (Kaigasse and picturesque Steingasse) and the western part, with famous sights such as the cathedral, Getreidegasse, the castle, and numerous churches, which define the baroque look of the city.

  • This is really a fairy-tale city. It's quiet, quaint, old-fashioned, and stunning. I could spend days here just wandering along the river, admiring the baroque architecture. A lot of Europe was destroyed in the last century; I'm glad this city is in such good shape.
