With its two elegant minarets, this mosque, built as late as the 1920s by Emir Abdullah, is the landmark of the old town. The mosque is especially revered by the Jordanians, because the second Caliph Omar ibn al-Khatib (634-44) had already built a mosque on this spot. Around the mosque, the life of the vibrant old town pulsates, with its shops, restaurants, and cafes.
