First, you walk to the entrance of the narrow rocky gorge, the al-Siq, which is located between steep rock walls 100 meters high. Along the way you see to the right three freestanding rock cubes, probably block tombs from the 1st century. Since their function was not known, the Bedouins called them "Djinn" blocks -- that is, spirit graves. On the opposite side is the obelisk grave, including a classic Nabatean building with three rooms (triclinium), probably a hall for the veneration of the dead. The 1.2-km walk through the Siq, probably a former river bed, shows traces of Nabataean road paving; the walls are visible remnants of the water system.
