Flecker Botanical Gardens

The Botanic Gardens are a great place to go to spend a fun day with the family. These gardens were set up in 1886, and today have some of the rarest species in the world, not seen anywhere else. These include exotic species of palms, gingers, orchids, bamboos, vines and tropical fruit trees. A tropical flower known as the Amorphophallus Titanum, which weighs up to 70 kg with a single leaf almost 7 meters across is an exotic rainforest plant that grows here and is only one of two found in Australia. The curious carnivorous Nepenthes plant is also found here. The gardens are lush with rainforest cover and babbling brooks. There is also an excellent restaurant that serves natural produce for breakfast and lunch and a famous Sunday Champagne brunch. The entrance to the gardens and guided walks within are free, although there are collection boxes inside and donations are welcome.
