Formerly called Nylstroom, Modimolle, meaning ‘place of the spirits’, is the commercial centre of the Waterberg region with a small centre shaded by jacaranda and poinciana trees. Grapes, watermelons and peaches are the principal sources of income, and stalls sell boxes of fruit at the roadside after the harvests. A grape festival is held here in January. The NTK is the largest agricultural cooperative society in the Limpopo Province, where you can see nuts being sorted and peanut butter being made.
