Introduction
The regions of Marlborough and Nelson have all the classic New Zealand ingredients – mountains, lakes, golden beaches and great tramping tracks – all safe within the boundaries of its national parks and warmed by the sunniest climate in the country. If that weren’t enough, they also have a relatively low population density.
Those who do live here are a diverse bunch: from the farmers, fruit growers and winemakers in the valleys, to the artists and writers in the quiet creative havens of the Marlborough Sounds and smaller rural towns, like Motueka or Takaka. Despite the appealing lifestyle and obvious attractions, few foreigners have heard of this ‘secret region’. Most simply pass through on their way to the tourist honey pots further south, stopping only briefly in Picton, the main ferry port on the South Island.Are you a business owner?
