Gisborne

The busy agricultural service town, port and coastal resort of Gisborne attracts many visitors in search of the sun, eager to jump on a surfboard or explore the East Cape. Being the most easterly city in the country, Gisborne prides itself on being the first city in the world to see the sunrise. It is also the first place that Captain Cook set foot in New Zealand. On top of that, it boasts an almost subtropical climate with long hours of sunshine and rich fertile plains. You’d be forgiven for expecting the place to be brimming with pride and vitality, yet somehow Gisborne seems a little tired.
