Due to its surrounding topography and perhaps its very location right on SH1, as well as being so near Christchurch and so far from the principal tourist attractions to the south, Ashburton seldom lures tourists to stop for anything other than a hurried toilet break, quick snack and cup of coffee. But having said that, it is not a bad little place and if you take a little time (especially on Sundays), it will reveal a few worthy attractions and tempting activities to complement the warm welcome offered by its friendly residents.
