Port Douglas is rather proud of its lovely Four Mile Beach, which attracts cosmopolitan crowds of topless backpackers and the more conservative resort clients. Many water-based activities are on offer for those not satisfied with merely sunbathing or swimming. A net is placed just offshore to ward off box jellyfish and other stingers and lifeguards are usually in attendance (always swim between the flags). Before picking your spot on the sand you might like to enjoy the picture-postcard view of the beach from Flagstaff Hill: turn right at the bottom of Mossman Street, then follow Wharf Street on to Island point Road. Anzac Park hosts a market every Sunday. It is a colourful affair and offers everything from sarongs to freshly squeezed orange juice. More expensive permanent boutiques are housed in the delightfully cool Marina Mirage Complex, Wharf Street. For further information, see http://www.marinamiragepd.com.au.
