Mazagan: The Portugese district of El-Jadida is far away from the inrush of tourists
The provincial capital south of Casablanca is primarily worth a visit because of the Portuguese fortress Mazagan which is also called Cité Portugaise. It is protected as a world heritage site. Two gates and a very well-preserved cistern with a Gothic ribbed vault are a must for every visitor of El Jadida. You can stay in the Palais Andalous.
The bus station is in Av Mohammed V, approximately 1 km south of Pl Mohammed V. Buses to Marrakech tend to be badly maintained and the 200 km can take around 3½ hrs. For Safi there are 8 buses daily. For Casablanca/Rabat, 9 buses at hourly or 2-hourly intervals, morning to early evening. For Agadir, 7 buses, 0700-1800. For Oualidia, 1 bus for most of the year, 2 in summer. For Taroudant, change at Agadir.
