Taza

There was a time when Taza was quite a happening place, given its strategic location controlling the easiest route from the Moroccan heartland of Fès and Meknès to the eastern plains. The town, rather quiet today, is divided into three quite separate parts: the area around the railway and bus station; the ville nouvelle around Place de l’Indépendence; and the quiet médina on the hill with its narrow streets. After the hurly-burly of Fès, low-key Taza makes a good base from which to explore up into the hills of the Jbel Tazzeka National Park.
