With a population of about 4000, the village is the administrative centre for a large surrounding area. There is a almond festival here, the Fête des Amandiers, in January and February, with music and dance, and a market on Wednesday, which brings in large numbers of people from the surrounding villages. There are stalls making and selling a variety of crafts, in particular babouches (traditional shoes), which are a local speciality – you might find varieties here that are rare in Marrakech.
