Aurangabad

Named after the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, Aurangabad was once briefly the capital on India, but today is a noisy, chaotic city with no real charm to it. One of the only attractions in town is Bibi Ka Maqbara, locally known as 'the poor man's Taj' because it is a mini Taj Mahal built by Aurangzeb's son as a tribute to his mother. However, Aurangabad is a good base for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Ellora and Ajanta, caves located only a couple of hours from town.
