Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh guru, was assassinated here in 1708 . There is an important gurudwara 1.5 km from the station, which is rumoured to be covered in gold in the near future. Today Nanded (Nander), which stands on the river Godavari, is an important administrative and commercial town. It is also on the main railway line between Hyderabad/Secunderabad and Aurangabad/Nashik.
