Getting there
The railway station is about 1 km to the northwest of the town centre while the three bus stands are all in the centre, within easy reach of the hotels.

Long distance
There are 2 bus stations. Central, T0821-252 0853, is mainly used by long-distance SRTC companies of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, all of which run regular daily services between Mysore and other major cities. The bus station has a list of buses with reserved places. To Bengaluru (Bangalore): every 15 mins from non-stop platform. Also frequent services to Hassan, 3 hrs; Mangalore (7 hrs); and Ooty (5 hrs) via Bandipur (2 hrs). Daily services to Coimbatore; Gokarna (12 hrs); Hospet: 1930 (10 hrs), very tiring; Kochi, 10 hrs; Kozhikode via Wayanad; Salem (7 hrs); Thiruvananthapuram (Super deluxe, 14 hrs). Several to Satyamangalam where you can connect with buses to Tamil Nadu. The journey is through wilderness and forests with spectacular scenery as the road finally plunges from the plateau down to the plains.
The Suburban and Private bus stands, T0821-244 3490, serves nearby destinations including Somnathpur, around 1 hr direct, or longer via Bannur or via Narasipur. Many private companies near Gandhi Sq operate overnight sleepers and interstate buses which may be faster and marginally less uncomfortable. Book ahead for busy routes.
Car
Travel companies and KSTDC charge about Rs 500 (4 hrs/40 km) for city sightseeing; Rs 850 to include Srirangapatnam and Brindavan.
