Climate
Temperatures in summer reach a maximum of 40°C, minimum 28°C. Rainfall in July and August is 310 mm, with other months measuring an average 40 mm. The best time to visit is from November to March.Getting around

Getting there
The airport is within the city; a pre-paid taxi to the centre (Ragunath Bazar) costs around Rs 200. There are flights from Delhi and Srinagar. The railway station is in the New Town, across the Tawi River, and a few kilometres from the old hilltop town where most of the budget hotels are located. The general bus stand, where inter-state buses come in, is at the foot of the steps off the Srinagar Road in the Old Town.

Bus
Sumos run to Katra from the station cost Rs 750 (Rs 1000 a/c). J&KSRTC, TRC, Vir Marg, T0191-257 9554 (1000-1700), general bus stand, T0191-257 7475 (0400-2000) direct buses to Srinagar (293 km), Katra (for Vaishno Devi), Pathankot and Kishtwar. Punjab Roadways T0191-254 2782. To Delhi (586 km), daily. Srinagar buses leave from the railway station, usually 0600-0700.
