Located on the north side of a sheltered bay on the west coast, the island’s chief settlement is made up of pastel-coloured houses giving on to a broad seafront promenade, which cuts its way around a deep triangular harbour filled with small fishing boats. Backed by terraces of olive groves, it’s a pleasant enough place with a down-to-earth atmosphere and decent choice of restaurants serving standard seafood and wine.
