Hum

Claiming to be the smallest town in the world (population 17), Hum was once a strategically important border station between the Venetian and Hapsburg territories. Today there are only about a dozen old stone houses intact, but weekly mass is still held in the parish church and there are annual elections for a mayor. However, most people come here specifically to eat at the renowned Humska Konoba. Besides eating here, you can also ask for the key to the tiny Romanesque Church of St Jerome, decorated with 12th-century frescoes, standing in the grounds of the cemetery on the edge of town.
