Córdoba’s airport currently has no commercial flights servicing it; the nearest international and domestic airports are Sevilla and Málaga, both within two hours’ drive. The lack of air traffic is made up for by the AVE fast train that connects the city with Málaga (one hour), Sevilla (45 minutes) and Madrid (one hour 45 minutes). This docks at the modern train station 1 km west of the old town; there are also less rapid connections to other destinations. Next door is the bus station, which links Córdoba to the rest of Andalucía and most major Spanish centres. If arriving by car, park as soon as you can; negotiating the narrow old-town streets is tricky, and most corners bear the paintmarks of wounded vehicles. There are many supervised parking areas, and many accommodation options offer car spaces for €10-20 per day; you may also be lucky and find a nook in the old town to nose into.
Tourist information
The booths at Plaza Tendillas and opposite the Alcázar can provide you with the This. Is:Córdoba multilingual audio guide to the city, which has detailed information on sights around town including Medina Azahara. It costs €15, but you get it for 48 hours. There’s about 4½ hours of commentary on it. It comes with two headphones, so a couple can listen simultaneously.

Trains
The high-speed AVE train links Córdoba with Sevilla (45 mins, €28.10), Madrid Atocha (1hr 45 mins, €55-61), and Málaga (1 hr, €35-40), with departures more than hourly during the day. It’s worth booking these in advance. There’s an a/c lounge available with free food and drinks if you have booked in preferente class, which costs 50% more. The Avant trains to Sevilla and Málaga are almost as quick but about half the price. Slower trains to Sevilla take 1 hr 20 mins (from €8.20).
Other trains head to Barcelona and Cádiz.. For most other Andalucían destinations the bus is cheaper and quicker.
