Air

Ferry
There are 5 separate terminals in Nanaimo. BC Ferries, T1888-223 3779, www.bcferries. com, operates the following services: Departure Bay, 2 km north of Downtown (Bus No 2) to Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay, every 2 hrs, 0630-2100, $12, child $6, vehicle $39, one-way, 95 mins; Nanaimo’s Duke Point (12 km south, with only taxis into town) to Vancouver’s Tsawwassen, every 2½ hrs, 0515-2245, 0630-2100, $12, child $6, vehicle $39, one- way, 2 hrs; Gabriola Island to Nanaimo Harbour behind the Harbour Park Mall Downtown, hourly 0615- 2255, $7.55, child $4.25, vehicle $17.80, 20 mins. Smaller ferries leave from behind the Bastion for Protection Island, and from Maffeo- Sutton Park for Newcastle Island.
Bus
Local
City buses, T250-390 4531, www.rdn. bc.ca, all meet downtown at Harbour Park Mall and go as far north as Qualicum Beach.
Long distance
Greyhound, T1800-661 1725, http://www.greyhound.ca, run 6 buses daily to Victoria (2-2½ hrs, $18), 1 west to Port Alberni and Tofino (1030, 4 hrs, $38 to Tofino), 3 north to Campbell River (2½- 3 hrs, $28), of which the 0830 continues to Port Hardy (7 hrs, $62) and 4 to Departure Bay. Tofino Bus operates services to Tofino, Vancouver and Victoria .
