Appropriately known as the Klondike Highway, Highway 2 follows the Gold Rush Trail north from Carcross through Whitehorse to Dawson City. The southern leg soon passes Carcross Desert, really a dried out lake bottom, very small and not especially impressive. A little further are the Emerald and Spirit lakes, where there is a very primitive and private campsite. Annie Lake Road branches west at the Robinson Roadhouse historic site and winds its way up the scenic Wheaton River Valley. There are lots of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking along here, such as the Red Ridge and Two Horse Creek trails, and experienced paddlers can canoe down the Wheaton or Watson Rivers to Bennett Lake.
