Ferry
2 companies operate a water taxi service to places like the native village of Metlakatla across the harbour: West Coast Launch, T250-627 9166, http://www.westcoastlaunch.com, and Metlakatla Ferry Service, T250-628 3201. Local ferries go 3 times weekly to Port Simpson, T250-624 5411, and twice weekly to Kincolith, halfway up Portland Inlet, T250- 624 6116 (6½ hrs).
BC Ferries, http://www.bcferries.ca, operates the Inside Passage to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island and a daily service to Haida Gwaii ($33, child $18.50, vehicle $122, one-way) . Alaska Marine Highway, T1800-642 0066, www.dot. state.ak.us/amhs, have at least 4 weekly sailings most of the year to Skagway, Alaska, with daily sailings in peak season (US$372, vehicle $498). They stop in some or all of: Keichikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Hyder, Stewart, Juneau, Haines and Hollis.
