Getting there and around

Portree is ideally placed for trips to all but the most south-westerly parts of the island. Buses leave from the bus station in Somerled Square to Dunvegan, Uig, Broadford, Kyleakin, Armadale, the Talisker Distillery and Glenbrittle. There are also services to the mainland. The town is compact enough to get around easily on foot, though there is a regular town bus service for those needing to get into the centre from the outskirts.

Bus

There are buses (No 57A) Mar-Oct Mon-Sat around the Trotternish Peninsula, in each direction, via Uig. Daily buses to Kyleakin, and to Armadale via Broadford. There are buses Mon-Sat to Carbost (for the Talisker Distillery). Also use this service to access Glenbrittle, alighting at Carbost and walking 8 miles. There are buses daily Mon-Sat to Glendale via Dunvegan, and buses Mon-Sat to Waternish via Dunvegan.

Cycle hire
