Beinn na Faoghla (Benbecula)

Tiny Benbecula may be suffering from delusions of stature. Its Gaelic name means ‘mountain of the fords’, but the highest point is a mere 407 ft, with the rest of the island as flat as a pancake. It lies between Protestant North Uist and Catholic South Uist, and most visitors use it solely as a means of getting from one to the other via the A865, which cuts straight through the middle.
