The end of a magnificent train journey
Locally known as "Kyle," most visitors to Skye will pass through Kyle of Lochalsh, since it is the last stop on the famously beautiful train ride from Inverness. But upon arrival, there's not much to compel one to stay - catch a bus over the Skye Bridge to Kyleakin, and begin your adventure in Skye there.

Bus
Scottish Citylink buses, T0990-505050, run from Kyle to Inverness, 3 daily, 2 hrs; to Glasgow via Fort William, 4 daily, 5 hrs; and to Edinburgh via Fort William, 1 daily, 6½ hrs. Scottish Citylink buses run to Portree, 1 hr, and Uig, 1½ hrs, for ferries to Tarbert on Harris and Lochmaddy on North Uist. There’s also a regular shuttle service across the bridge to Kyleakin, every 30 mins.
Train
The train journey to Inverness from Kyle, though not as spectacular as the West Highland line, is very scenic. It runs 3-4 times Mon-Sat, 2½ hrs, and once or twice on Sun from May-Sep.
