Whether coming to play golf (there are seven courses), walk, climb or sample the ales, whisky and cheese produced by proud Arranachs, the largest town and port of Brodick is where most visitors step ashore. Lying in a ‘broad bay’, (hence its Norse name breidr vik), Brodick offers up guesthouses, eateries and shops but little of the scenic charm that awaits along the outlying winding roads.

Bus
Bus to Lochranza connects with the Claonaig ferry or to Brodick for the ferry to Ardossan.
Car hire
Arran Transport, at Brodick pier, T01770-302121. Car hire from £25 per day.
Ferry
The main ferry route is to Ardrossan from Brodick. CalMac ferry, 55-mins.
The other route is to Claonaig from Lochranza in the north of the island. A non- bookable car/passenger ferry, 30 mins, for times, T0800-665000, http://www.calmac.co.uk.Banks
Brodick has banks with ATMs, but these are the only ones on the island.
