Manzini and its outlying districts comprise of Swaziland’s largest urban population. The town is an industrial centre with a brewery, a meat-processing plant and electronics factories that attract commuter labourers from outlying areas. The industrial atmosphere is not particularly pleasant and there is little of interest for the visitor.

Background
The first trading station was opened here in 1885 and was originally run from a tent. The plot was later sold on to Alfred Bremer who built a hotel and a shop. Manzini was originally known as Bremersdorp after Alfred Bremer, but it was renamed Manzini after the Boers burnt the settlement to the ground during the Anglo-Boer War. The administrative centre then moved to Mbabane. In 1894, while Swaziland was being administrated by a temporary government composed of representatives of the Transvaal, the British government and the king, the headquarters were in the local hotel.Air

SAA reservations South Africa, T011-978 1111, ww2.flysaa.co.za, has 4 daily flights to and from Jo’burg (1hr 5mins).

Buses and minbus taxis leave from the bus station on Louw St to Mbabane, Big Bend, Lavumisa, Nhlangano and Mahamba.
