Air

Sultan Mahmud airport lies 18 km northwest of town, T09-666 4204. Regular connections with KL. Firefly connect the city with Singapore, Subang and Penang and Air Asia have daily flights to KLIA LCCT.

Bus

Kuala Terengganu’s bus station is just off Jln Tok Lam. Connections to KL (3 hrs, RM39), JB (9 hrs, RM44), Kota Bharu (RM14), Kuantan (RM17), Rantau Abang (RM17), Mersing (RM36), Singapore (RM 46), Melaka (RM43), Butterworth (RM41, 9 hrs) and Alor Star (RM54). Express buses to KL leave 0900, 0930, 1000, 2130 and 2200. To Kuantan every 90 mins until 2200. To Mersing there are 2 buses, at 1230 and 2200.

Local buses leave from the same station with connections to Merang, Marang and Kuala Besut. For the Perhentian Islands, board a bus to Kuala Besut, which goes directly to the jetty. The bus leaves 6 times a day, the most useful departures for travellers leave at 0700, 1000 and 1130 (2½ hrs, RM10.70). Past these times, you will have trouble connecting with a boat.

Next to the bus station on Jl Masjid and from the waterfront. Destinations include Kota Bharu, Rantau Abang, Marang, Kuantan, KL, JB and Penang. Taxi, T09-621 581.
