Kuala Lipis is a pleasant and relaxed town on the Jelai and Lipis rivers. Unlike most of Malaysia’s towns, there has been very little development and many colonial buildings still survive. In the late 19th century it grew to prominence as a gold mining town and, for a short period, was the area’s administrative capital. Today it’s a good base from which to trek to Kenong Rimba and is not without charm.
