A RM5 marine park conservation fee must be paid before boarding any boat to Tioman and other islands. The payment booth is on the left as you enter the departure point at the jetty.
The jetty is a 15-min walk from the long- distance bus stand. Most of the ticket offices are by the jetty but boat tickets to the islands are also sold from booths near the bus stop. Trips from Mersing can be extremely rough during the monsoon season; boats will sometimes leave Mersing in the late afternoon, at high tide, but rough seas can delay the voyage. It is advisable only to travel during daylight hours. During peak monsoon all ferry services are cancelled.
At present only Bluewater Express boats are making the trip over to Tioman. The timetable is highly erratic and dependent on the tides. There are 2-3 boats leaving daily, between 0730 and 1630. Tickets cost RM35 (2 hrs) and stop at Kampong Genting, Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort, Kampong Tekek, Kampong Ayer Batang and Kampong Salang, and you must tell the boat workers where you want to disembark.
