Aurland is the centre of the district of the same name. The picturesque Aurlandsfjord, a 1.5 km wide valley channel flanked by 1000 m high mountain faces, is not far away. The Otternes open-air museum on the way to Flåm shows a 16th century farmstead composed of 26 different buildings.
