Gili Air (Turtle Island) is the easternmost island, lying closest to Bangsal. It has the largest local population, with a village of around 400 families in the centre of the island. The island takes about an hour to walk around. As the local population is Muslim, visitors should avoid topless sunbathing. Despite the number of bungalows, it remains a peaceful place to stay. Snorkelling is quite good off the island. When leaving your accommodation take sensible precautions andmake sure you lock both the door to the bathroom and the
front door. As most bathrooms have no roofs, a favoured way for thieves to gain entry is over the bathroom wall and into your room via the bathroom door.
