Padangbai

Padangbai has a beautiful setting, overlooking a crescent-shaped bay with golden sand beach, colourful jukung (fishing boats) and surrounded by verdant hills. This is the port for ferries to Lombok and boats to Nusa Penida, and is a hive of excitement when ferries arrive and depart. It is one of the best deep-water harbours in Bali. There are beaches on either side of the town. Walking south from the pier and bus station, follow the road until you come to a tatty sign on the left indicating the rough, steep path that leads up and over the hill to Bias Tugel (400 m). This is a beautiful, white-sand beach, the perfect setting for a quiet swim or evening stroll. There are five beachside warungs. The walk over the headland has good views of the town and hills beyond.

Review from tripwolf reader i nyoman ariana :on the left side of the village there is another small beach called blue lagoon where it is perfect for snorkeling with a great variety of sealife..the village of padangbai nowadays is famous for diving, there are many dive companies located in the village and also from all over bali the diving companies are coming to this town to let their customers dive, as there are many dive sites around, with names like manta point( where have a great chance to see manta rays)shark caves, and many more..perfect diving for experienced and beginning divers..further is padangbai an original fishing village, with many original balinese ceremonies ,( so no substitute ceremonies especially made for tourists) and especially one ceremony: the barong dance is quite famous and believed to be one of the strongest in whole bali, many times locals get in a trance, very impressive to see!. it is held every 15 days from november untill february.the pura silayukti temple on the west side of the village is one of the oldest in bali, and has a special ceremony 2 times a year where balinese people from all over the island come and pray. for a few days the village is very busy with market and food stalls placed everywhere, and local vendors selling their products untill late at night.tourists are very welcome and not harassed as in the bigger touristic places in bali.in padangbai there is the slow feries to nusa penida and lombok, but there are also many fast boats straight to the gili islands next to lombok.overall padangbai is a nice place to spend a few days
    about a year agoreport abuse
