The town of Bloudan is situated 7 km to the east of Zabadani, at the slightly higher altitude of 1400 m. It is a smaller and somewhat more exclusive version of Zabadani, consisting mostly of modern concrete construction that has largely swamped the original Greek Orthodox and Catholic village out of which it grew. The main square is actually in the lower part of the town, and from here you can continue up the mountainside, passing ever more exclusive and fancy residences and restaurants along the way. Fridays are the best day to visit (this is true of Zabadani also), when the town is at its liveliest with day-trippers from Damascus, as well as visitors from Lebanon and Gulf-State holidaymakers.
