This is the principal centre in the region with small roadside shops, bottle shops and a couple of smart new malls with banks and supermarkets. The only tourist attraction is the informative Nakambale Museum at Olokonda, signposted off the B1 before you reach town.
While there is nothing for the tourist in town, there is a sense of having ‘arrived’. Activity of people and traffic flow increases dramatically, there are more roadside stalls, and develop- ments extend further away from the road. There is more litter, more abandoned, gutted cars and less vegetation. In town, modern shopping centres – with banks and insurance companies, supermarkets and furniture stores – have been developed, and a four-star hotel has appeared on the northern edge of town catering mainly to business travellers.
