About 50 km south of Likoni is the village of Msambweni which is home to what is one of the best hospitals on the coast as well as a famous leprosarium. The beach is really lovely with coral rag-rock cliffs and there are some ruins in this area that are believed to have been a slave detention camp. Funzi Island is a private island located just off the coast from here at the mouth of the Ramisi River where there is a luxury lodge, and again like Chale Island it is blessed with swaying palms, mangrove forests and sugar-white beaches.
