The next major town along from Naivasha, Nakuru is Kenya’s fourth-largest town and is in the centre of some of the country’s best farming land. Getting There
Ins and outs
There are frequent buses and matatus from just about everywhere in the highlands region of Kenya to and from Nakuru. The main road from Nairobi passes by Naivasha and Gilgil and Lake Elmenteita on the way. Nakuru town itself is compact enough to walk around, though boda bodas, regular taxis and the odd tuk-tuk are available to get around. Many of the more upmarket hotels and lodges in the region can arrange transfers to and from Nairobi.
Nakuru
The main bus station is on the eastern edge of town. Easy Coach, which has a terminal in town at the Kobil petrol station on Kenyatta Av, is recommended as all its vehicles are very new. It has services to Nairobi, Eldoret and Kakamega.
Most of the big banks have a bureau de change and ATMs including Barclays and Standard Chartered on Kenyatta Av. The Postbank on GK Kamau Highway can arrange Western Union money transfers.
Internet
There are a number of internet cafés around town but the best is the Cyber Café, Kenyatta Av, which has lots of terminals, is cheap at about US$1 per hr and has surprisingly fast access by Kenya’s standards.
Medical services
Pharmacy: there is a well-stocked pharmacy next to a doctor’s clinic near the Standard Chartered Bank.
Post office
The post office is close to the clock tower on Kenyatta Av.
