Rawlins Plantation, reached up a long drive through canefields, has magnificent gardens full of tropical plants and flowers and is an excellent place to stop for lunch on a tour of the island. Alternatively, there is a black sand beach at Dieppe Bay with the excellent Golden Lemon Inn. The beach has been moved around by hurricanes but it is still a good place to stroll, with lots of sandpipers and herons and a view of The Quill on Sint Eustatius in the distance. Pass through Saddlers to the Black Rocks. Here lava has flowed into the sea, providing interesting rock formations. The main road continues south through Cayon (turn right uphill to Spooners for a look at the abandoned Cotton Ginnery) back to Basseterre via the RL Bradshaw Airport.
